‘More than just a sports camp’ – how your child can benefit from an XLR8 holiday course

During February half-term, 14 children from Newark in Nottinghamshire entered the new and unique realms of an XLR8 holiday course.

With our specially trained Health Mentors leading a variety of activities based upon the popular themes of Superheroes and My Tribe, My Land, the children aged between 7 and 11 were introduced to a wide range of sessions throughout the week. These included:

  • Den building
  • Creating health drinks
  • Superhero costume creation
  • Sports activities
  • Comic and top trump card designing
  • Creating films
  • Developing a new Haka!

One child concluded, “I think I would say I had the best day of my life.”

Such a thought was echoed by his parent who explained,  “My children haven’t been so enthused about something for a while so you guys must have made it great fun.”

The main outcome for everyone involved with XLR8 holiday courses is providing the opportunity for children to enjoy themselves during half-term. However, various other objectives were also achieved with children making new friends, developing transferable skills and even improving their health and wellbeing!

Regular PB:ME (personal best, my effort) activities gave children the opportunity to develop their physical health and cognitive development. Results showed speed bounce scores improved by up to 23% across the week and a progression of 29% in memory recall.

Sports and physical games are an aspect of the course but parents appreciated the variety of activities being delivered. One stated: “The boys have had a fabulous time today and enjoyed themselves tremendously. They have already asked if they can go again. My son is not overly into sports so to have a holiday club that provides various activities instead of just sport is fantastic. A big thank you.”

This sentiment was echoed by another parent who is looking forward to future courses. “Thank you to all the staff who were brilliant. We will definitely be enrolling on future courses and recommending you.”
