XLR8 Holiday Courses – Channel your inner Superhero!

Half-term can be a logistical nightmare for parents up and down the country. Trying to juggle work commitments with children off school for 13 weeks every academic year can lead to a headache to put plans in place – let alone ensuring children are free from boredom for the entirety of the holidays.

However, Evolve run unique transition courses throughout the year to ensure children are engaged, making new friends and developing numerous skills whilst having a fantastic time with young people of a similar age.

Schools can choose from four themes for children to enjoy and this week we will be featuring ‘Superheroes’!

On day one, children are introduced to the venue, quite often the secondary school they will be attending after completing Year 6, before identifying core skills that make up a ‘hero’. They are introduced to Core Impact activities that ensure they are maintaining and developing their English and Maths knowledge whilst also setting a baseline for their PB:ME (Personal Best: My Efforts) scores. Here they are encouraged to improve their physical fitness scores through a series of fun activities.

Each day also comprises of Vitality games that support social and physical skills through various activities developed by Evolve Health Mentors. Regular health discussions underpin these practical sessions by promoting the importance of healthy lifestyles.

Day two looks at the type of ‘hero’ each individual would like to be and involves them designing their own superhero costume. They are then encouraged to create their own comic strip and focus on the powers they already possess the following day.

The penultimate day sees students working as a team to develop their own superhero home and involves discussion on how to deal with any problems that arise when they join secondary school. The final day is then wrapped up with a talent show, showcasing expertise and creations developed across the week in front of parents and friends.
