New Health Mentor Danny Kelley finished off his first half term by enthralling pupils at Arnbrook Primary School in Nottingham with tales of his recent role at the Paralympic Games in Rio.
The former professional cyclist went to Rio with the GB Paratriatlon team support staff to help ex-Royal Marine commando Joe Townsend.
Joe, who lost both legs in Afghanistan in 2008 at the age of 19, competed in the Paratriathlon – a new sport which combines wheelchair racing, wheelchair biking and swimming.
Danny’s job was to work as a mechanic on the equipment and help Joe move between his bike and wheelchair and in and out of his wetsuit.
Danny said he had been prompted to hold a presentation at his school when he was asked a lot of questions by pupils.
“The response for the presentation was brilliant and the children were very engaged and enthusiastic,” he said.
