XLR8 Courses Gather Pace

Hot on the heels of Project HE:RO which supports primary schools throughout England and Wales, Evolve has now successfully launched a programme designed to address a number of challenges faced by secondary schools.

XLR8 courses provide valuable links between primary and secondary schools whilst also addressing the common dip in attainment during the KS2 to KS3 transitional process.  The XLR8 programme has been designed to provide enjoyable and purposeful learning activities across a wide range of curriculum areas during school holidays with children at the very centre of each and every course.

Each XLR8 day will comprise of engaging lessons in the following four subjects:

  1. Vitality…activity, sport, team building and group challenges

  2. Enterprise…Dragon’s Den meets The Apprentice

  3. Talent…showcasing existing abilities and discovering lots of new ones

  4. DigITal MEdia…using IT to engage learners and enhance learning

As a result of outstanding feedback from schools involved in early trials, Evolve is almost fully booked for summer 2014 courses already.  As a result of the introduction of this new and exciting programme, Evolve now employs many more Health Mentors on permanent contracts and year round activity.  Also, Evolve now has a number of teachers and volunteers employed on short term contracts during the summer weeks to provide valuable support for these XLR8 courses.

This short videoclip was made during the XLR8 Course at Bow School in East London in August 2013 and gives a flavour of what is in store for XLR8 partner schools in 2014 – click here for the video.
